The Unknown Dev

PocketProof In development

A pocket-sized proof of purchase.

Receipts fade, crumple and vanish exactly when you need them. PocketProof photographs one and files it, so the paper stops mattering.

It's an Android app for the moment you need to prove you paid: a jacket to take back, a boiler that should still be under warranty, an expense to claim. Scan the receipt when you get it, and months later you find it by typing a word instead of emptying a drawer.

How it works

  1. Scan. Tap + and scan the receipt. The scanner finds the paper's edges, straightens it and keeps the original colour. You can use the camera or a photo you already have.
  2. Check what it read. The shop, date and total are filled in, along with VAT, payment method and the items where the receipt shows them. Anything it couldn't read is flagged before you save, and you pick a category. It remembers your last one.
  3. Find it later. Type anything: the shop, a note of your own, or a word printed on the receipt. Matching starts from the first letter, and repeat visits to the same place group into one row.
  4. Fix anything, any time. Edit every field, including the item list. Your corrections to shop names are offered as suggestions next time, and if the items don't add up to the total, the app says so.
  5. Back it up. Export a ZIP with your photos, a manifest and spreadsheet-ready CSV files. Restore it on a new phone, or import a spreadsheet of older expenses.

What it does

Honest by design

A receipt archive is only useful if you can trust it. So where PocketProof can't read something confidently, it leaves the field empty and tells you, rather than guessing. A blank you can fill in beats a wrong number you never noticed. And the photograph is always kept, so the proof is the receipt itself, not just the figures read from it.

What it isn't

PocketProof is an archive. It doesn't connect to your bank, move money or give financial advice, and it isn't tax or accounting software. It reads receipts as well as printed paper allows, so it's worth a glance at the figures it fills in before you rely on them.

What it costs

A single payment on Google Play (£2.39 in the UK), and that's it. No subscription, no in-app purchases and no ads.

Your data

Everything stays on your phone. There is no account and no server, and text recognition runs on the device, so your photographs are never uploaded. The only network request the app makes is fetching a shop's logo, and only when you ask for one. If Android's automatic backup is switched on, your archive may be included in your own Google account backup, which is a Google service. Read our privacy policy.
